The Rhythm of Bya Chu

From 2003, the Bon skor Tibetan Village Primary School (Guinan County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, PRC) has periodically published The Rhythm of Byachu (bya chu'i 'gyur khugs ) with locally raised funds. However, this became insufficient, threatening the end of the journal. Fortunately, in 2011 Mr. Philip Jones generously provided 10,000RMB that allowed for the publication of 500 copies (in 2011) and for two more issues to be published in 2012 and in 2013. In 2011, new editorship came to the journal.

The journal includes non-political poetic and literary works, non-fiction essays, and short stories translated from Chinese and English. A major goal is to encourage students to study and write in Tibetan. Local writers are encouraged to contribute their works to the publication. The journal editorship hopes local people will take an interest in seeing their children's works published and thus better realize the value of education, thereby encouraging them to send their children to school rather than keeping them at home to assist with animal husbandry, farming, and other chores.
